Kokoonnuimme aamulla Helsingissä Cafe Caruselissa jossa otettiin yhteiskuva josta tosin blogin kirjoittaja puuttuu...
Valokuvaamisen jälkeen siirryimme länsisatamaan ja Tallinnan lautalle.
Tallinnasta ajoimme Pärnuun missä yövyimme Alexandri Pubin majoissa.
Paikka tuntui olevan varsin suosittu vaikka oltiin vielä toukokuun puolella.

We gathered in Helsinki on Saturday morning at Cafe Carousel and took the "official" start up photo, of course missing the writer of this blog.
After taking some photos we drove to harbour to get the ferry to Tallinn.
From Tallinn we rode to Pärnu where we had booked cabins of Alexandri Pub,
really popular place among bikers even though it was still May.

Sunnuntai 29.5
Aikainen herätys, odotellaan auringonpaisteessa pääsyä aamupalalle
Koneet käyvät klo 7:30 ja liikkeelle hiljaista Via Balticaa etelään päin Riian ohi,
padon kohdalla tietyömaa samassa mallissa kuin edellisenä syksynä.
Riian jälkeen poikkeamme Via Balticalta tielle E77 kohti Siauliata.
Latvian puolella tiet ovat huonompia kuin Liettuassa ja sadettakin oli ilmassa sen verran että sadevarusteitakin tarvittiin.
Saapuessamme ristikukkulalle sadekin oli jo tauonnut
Tässä ollaan koko porukka samassa kuvassa,
vasemmalta Arto, Mika J, Mika V, Jorma, Jaska, Jartsi ja Heikki.
Matka jatkui pieniä teitä pitkin kohti Puolan rajaa, joka ylitettiin pysähtymättä.
Päivän määränpäänä Elkin kaupunki itä Puolan järvialueella ja perille saavuimme hyvissä ajoin 663 ajetun kilometrin jälkeen.
Puolan tiet olivat varsin mutkaisia mutta huomattavasti mainettaan parempia.
Kypäräkaljat hotellin aulassa, suihkuun ja ruokailemaan.
Samalla yksi matkalaisemme totesi ettei löydä passiaan mistään.
Puhelinsoitolla varmistui että passi on kotona Suomessa...

Sunday 29.5
Early wake up, sunny morning, we are waiting opening of the pub to get breakfast.
7:30 we are on the way towards south of the quiet Via Baltica. Passing Riga, construction works of the road along the damn are still on the way like previous autumn.
After Riga we took the road E77 towards Siauliau.
In Latvia the roads were in worse condition than in Lithuania and it was raining a bit we need to use rain clothes.
As we reached the Hill of Crosses the rain has already stopped.
A lot of Crosses, some photos,finally we are all in one photo.

We continued driving small roads towards the border of Poland, that we passed without stopping.
The destination of the day was the city of Elk in the lake area of east Poland where we arrived in good time after 633 kilometres driven during the day.
The roads of Poland weré really windy but much better than we were told about.
A beer at the hotel reservation, shower and supper.
Then one member of our team noticed that he could not find his passport.
After a call to Finland it was clear the he had left it to home...

Maanantai 30.5
Viesti Suomesta kertoi että DHL toimittaa passin Lubliniin tiistaiksi klo 12:00, eli suunnaksi otettiin etelä ja Lublin. Koska päivän matka ei olisi pitkä, päätettiin pysyä poissa rekkojen ruuhkauttamilta pääteiltä.
Liikkeelle päästiin yhdeksältä lämpimässä säässä, ja päivä senkun lämpeni, parhaillaan päästiin +26 asteeseen.
Lubliniin saavuimme 17:00 ja majoitus löytyi aivan kaupungin keskustasta.
Päivän ajomatkaksi kertyi 342 km.
Illalla oli T-paita kelit, kävelimme vanhaan kaupunkiin, säimme hyvin ja maisteltiin hieman viiniäkin.

Monday 30.5.
Message from Finland informed that DHL will provide the passport to Lublin on Tuesday at noon, so we headed to south to Lublin. As the ride of the day is not going to be long, we decided to keep away from main roads that are crowded by heawy traffic.
We started at 9:00 on a sunny warm day that was getting all time warmer, the highest temperature of the day was +26 degrees celcius.
The roads were really windy and jumpy so that Jartsi who was driving as the last one lost a camera as the cover of the sidebag opened.
Lublin we reached at 17:00 and found a nice hotel just in middle of the city.
The ride of the day was 342 km.
Evening was warm enough to walk to the Old City with T-shirts, we eat well and had some wine.

Tiistai 31.5.
Aamupäivällä taas käveltiin ympäri kaupunkia ja vähän ennen puoltapäivää otettiin taksi DHL:n toimistolle. Vaan eipä ollut paikallinen taksikuski yhtään meitä viisaampi, yhdessä minun onneksi mukaan ottamani GPS:n avulla etsiskeltiin firmaa teollisuusalueelta jonkin aikaa ennen kuin tärppäsi.
Kirjekuori passeineen saatiin ja matkaa päästiin jatkamaan.
Puolan rajalla oli pitkät jonot ja eikun ohi vaan.
Tullimiehet olivat selvästi urheilu miehiä sillä Mikat ristiittiin heti Kojonkoskeksi ja Häkkiseksi!
Kaikkine muodollisuuksineen aikaa kului pari tuntia.
Vaikka kilometreissä matkaa ei ollut kertynyt paljoa, myöhäinen liikkeelle lähtö aiheutti sen että alkoi jo hämärtää.
Vaihdoimme rajalla loput Zlotyt ukrainan Hryvniksi ja aloimme etsiä majapaikkaa.
Sellainen löytyikin tienvarren majatalosta joka ei ollut mikään luksuspaikka mutta ei myöskään hinnankirossa. Yöpyminen maksoi 5 Euroa/mies.

Tuesday 31.5
At morning we walked again around the city and before noon took a taxi to go to the office of DHL. But the local taxidriver was not at all viser than we, so luckily I had with me my GPS so after a while of driving around the industrial zone we found the office.We got our envilope and so we could start towards to border of Ukraine.
At the Polish border there were long queues that we just passed.
The custom officers seemed to be sportsmen as our Mika's immediately got nicknames after famous Finns Kojonkoski (skijumper) and Hakkinen (Formula 1 champion)
At all the border process took about 2 hours.
Even thouhgh we had driven not so many kilometres during the day, because of the late start it was already getting dark.
We changed the rest of Zlotys to Ukrainien Hryvnas and started to find a place for over nigth.
We found such a one at near the main road guesthouse, not a lux but not expensive anyway.
A nigth cost about 5 Euros /person.

Aamiainen 7:00 sisältäen valmiin annoksen munakasta, salaattia, leipää ja teetä.
Joku onneton halusi kahvia joka maistui lähinnä tärpätiltä.
Miksiköhän näillä reissuilla kaikista tulee ennemmin tai myöhemmin teen juojia?

Kaupungissa viranomaiset olivat tehneet navin karttapäivityksen jälkeen yksisuuntaisia väyliä niin että tuli hieman ylimääräsitä Sight seeingiä.
Ajatuksena oli majoittua seuraavaan kaupunkiin Nemyriviin mutta sen ainoassa? hotellissa oli yksityistilaisuus joten jouduimme jatkamaan matkaa.
Jatkoimme Haisynin kaupunkiin jossa toinen yritys tuotti tulosta ja saimme huoneet lähes uudesta Luxor hotellista.
Pyörät parkkiin uima-altaan viereen, suihkuun ja syömään.
Matkaa päivälle kertyi 534 km.

Breakfast at 7:00 including ready measured omelet, sallad, bread and tea.
Someone not so lycky asked for coffee that tasted like petrol.
Somehow all participiants of these rides start sooner or later to drink tea...
We passed the city of Lviv, Ternopil and Khmelnytskyi before we got in Vinnytsia.
After updating the map of GPS the local outhorities hade changed a lot of streets for one way drive that caused us some more Sigth Seeing that was planned.
Our idea was to spend the next nigth in Nemyriv but the only? hotel of the city was fully occupied by a private party so we had to ride on.
We parked our bikes close to the pool, took a shower and then supper.

Torstai 2.6
Aamupala 7:00 egyptiläisittäin sisustetussa ravintolassa ja tien päälle.
Ensin suoraan itään kunnes saavuimme Kiova - Odessa moottoritielle pilvisessä mutta lähes kuivassa säässä aina Odessaan saakka.

Breakfast at 7:00 in an Egyptian style decorated restaurant and after that we started towards east to reach the highway from Kiev to Odesa.
The sky was grey but almost dry the whole day.
We arrived to Odessa soon after midday and took rooms at hotel Passage

It used to be the best hotel in town in early 20th century and it has been maintained in similar look as it was under Soviet era. As you can imagine from the name of the hotel it's located on top of a shopping centre.

Today we rode 332 km.
We walked around the city, luckily avoided a thunderstorm and for the end of the day had dinner in a restaurant recommended by the receptionist of the hotel.
They even had a flag of Finland in the middle of our table.
As dessert we had a glass of 7 years old Ararat.

Majoittauduimme hotelliin ja jätimme sinne ylimääräiset tavarat jatkaen matkaamme varsinaiseen kohteeseemme, Sergein kotikylään aivan Moldovian rajan lähelle.
Tutustuimme kylän elämään ja ihmisiin. Ajomatkaa päivälle kertyi 181 km.
Illalla Sergein veljet ja sisar kestittivät meitä ruhtinaallisesti koko kylän ottaessa osaa juhlaan.

Friday 3.4
First thing in the morning to see the most popular landmark of Odessa, the Stairs of Potemkin.
After that breakfast in hotel and then on the road to South West to the beachresort city of Zatoka where my fiend Sergey was waiting for us, quick unloading to the hotel and we continued to our actual target of our ride; the home willage of Sergey just close to the border of Moldovia.
We visited Sergey's relatives, got to know local people and how they live.
Days ride was altogether 181 km.
In the evening Sergey brothers and sister feasted us royally as the whole village took part of the celebration.

Aamulla heti herättyämme pitopöytään maistamaan shaslikkia.
Ajelutimme isäntäväkeä ympärikylää ja pääsimme itse hevoskyytiin.
Iltapäivällä palasimme hotellille ja uimaan Mustaan mereen.

Then we rode with our hosts around the village and also enjoyed horse wagon ride.

Aika kääntää nokka kohti pohjoista ja aloittaa paluumatka.

Ajoimme meren lahden ympäri ja pienen pätkän tullitietä Moldovan alueella.
Vastaan tuli hautajaissaattue joka ohittamisen ajan kaikki muu liikeennne seisoi.
Odessan pohjoispuolella tulimme takaisin moottoritielle ja miliisin valvontapisteellä meidät pysäytettiin ja pääsimme tutustumaan paikalliseen versioon puhalluspussista.
Lyhyen keskustelun jälkeen matka jatkui kohti Kiovaa, jonne saavuimme 550 km jälkeen.

Sunday 5.6
Time start ride back to north.
First around the gulf and then a short ride on a customs highway through Moldovia, back to the main highway to Kiev.
We met a cortege and while it passed eweryone was standing quiet.
On the highway police controll point we were stopped by the police and had to test local version of bag to blow for alcotest.
After a short discussion we continued our ride to Kiev where we arrived after 550 km.

Today we used public transports, bus, metro and river boat
Bikes were resting just close to the main entrance of our hotel.
Tiistai 7.6
Aamulla tapasimme matkatoimiston kaverin jonka perässä ajoimme Tsernobylin bussin lähtöpaikalle.
Bussin perässä köröttelimme suoja-alueen rajalle jonne jouduimme jättämään pyörät parkkiin ja jatkamaan matkaa bussilla.
Ajoimme reaktorialueen ympäri, pällistelimme lauhde altaassa kasvaneita jättiläiskaloja

ja jatkoimme matkaa Pripijatin aavekaupunkiin.
Onnettomuuden jälkeen rakennukset on ryöstetty tyhjiksi kaikesta käyttökelpoisesta materiaalista ja luonto vallannut 25 vuodessa alueen.
Suuntasimme lännen kautta hyvää ja hiljaista päätietä kohti Valko-Venäjän rajaa sillä tarkoituksenamme oli yöpyä Valko- Venäjällä. Yllätyksenä päätiellä oli sotilaiden vartioima puomi joka ei auennutkaan.
Pienen keskustelun jälkeen paikalle tuli komentava upseeri joka kertoi tien olevan säteilyalueen läpi menevä transitotie jota saivat käyttää ainostaan Ukrainan ja Valko-venäjän kansalaiset. Selitin hänelle että olemme juuri tulossa Tshernobylistä joten säteilyä emme pelkää. Koska matkatoimiston kanssa käymäni englannin kielinen kirjeenvaihto ei ollut riittävä dokumentti, kaivoin kamerani esiin ja näyttämällä kuvat joissa olimme paikanpäällä ja varsinkin säteilymittarissa laukaisi tilanteen ja puomi nousi ylös.
Tuskinpa kovin moni muu Suomalainen on ajanut ko. tietä pitkin.
Valko-Venäjän rajalla sitten vierähtikin aikaa papereita täyttäessä, vaikka viranomaiset olivatkin hyvin avuliaita ja ystävällisiä. Kun viimeinenkin paperi oli hyväksyttävässä kunnossa oli jo pimeää. Lähimpään kaupunkiin Mazuriin oli 40 km ja löytyihän sieltä hotellikin.
Sattumalta sama hotelli jossa Mika ja Heikki olivat yöpyneet Peterpanin matkalla. Meille tarjottiin hotellin parhaat huoneet valuutan devalvoitumisesta johtuen hyvin halvalla.
Nukkumaan päästiin noin 01:30
Tapahtumarikkaalle päivälle kertyi ajokilometrejä 350.

Tuesday 7.6
At the morning we met a guy from travel agency who showed us the way to the place wher the bus to Chernobyl started.
Then we rode behind the bus all the way to the border of the closed area, where we had to leave our bikes and continue with the bus.
We drove aroud the reactor area, had look of giant fishes in the condensate pool and continued to the chost town of Pripyat.
After the accident everything usable has been robbed and finally in 25 years the nature has taken the domination.
Our tour ended to the border of the area we were checked by radiation meters, that we luckily passed.
We started our bikes and took the quiet main road heading west and the border of Belarussia.
To our big surprise the road was closed by boom guarded by soldiers not willing to open it.
After a short discussing the commanding officer came and told us that this roan goes through the deposition area and transition as allowed only for citicens of Ukraine and Belarussia.
I told him that we just coming from Chernobyl so radiation is not a problem.
My correspondens in English with the travel agency was not acceptable authorization document so I took my camera and showed him to photos of us in the area.
Finally the photos showing us in radiation meters convinced him and the boom opened.
I doubt that therae not many Finns that have drived that road.
We arrived to the border and changed the rest of our Hryvnia to Roubles rode out of Ukraine.
At the border of Belarussia filling of all needed documents on correct way took a long time even though the officers wer helpfull and friendly. When the last paper was in acceptable form it was already dark.
The nearest town Mazur was 40 km away and it took some time to find a hotel.
Somehow it appeared to be the same hotel where Mika and Heikki had been on biketour of Peterpan Bike some years earlier.
Thanks to devalvation of local rouble we got the best suites of the hotel really cheap.
It was already 1:30 when we got to sleep after an eventfull day and 350 km.

Keskiviikko 8.6
Perivenäläisen aamupalan jälkeen liikkeelle kohti Sergein kotia 32 asteen helteessä.
Majalla tapasimme uuden isännän, eläkkeellä olevan armeijan everstin joka esitteli meille kaikki paikat alkaen uudesta kala-altaasta , yrttiviljelmistä ja meheläispesistä päätyen kotitislaamoon.
Toki jouduimme maistamaan kaikia tuotteitakin.
Saunottiin ja syötiin Sergein Shaslikkia.
Sergein tytär voitti biljardissa Mikan 8-7.Matkaa päivälle kertyi 325 km.

Wednesday 8.6
After traditional russian breakfast we rode to Sergey's home in 32 celcius grade temperature.
Sergey had returned from south and served us "frozen" bikers real Finnish coffe at his home before we rode to the hunting camp.
There we met new host of the camp, aretired army colonel that showed us all of the camp, starting from fish pond, herb plantation, bee houses ending to home made distillery.
Of course we tasted everything.
Then we had sauna and ate shaslik made by Sergey.
Sergey's daughter won Mika as billiard 8 to 7.
Days saldo was 325 km.

Aamulla ajelutettiin isäntää ja sitten jatkoimme pohjoiseen Venäjälle.
Rajasta yli passia vilauttamalla, ajoimme Pihkovaan, majoittauduimme ja katselimme kaupunkia.
Ruokailu joen rannalla olevassa ulkoilmaravintolassa.
Päivän ajomatkaa kertyi 455 km

Thursday 9.6
In the morning we rode with our host and then headed north to Russia.
Really simple border crossing just showing the passport and so we came to Pskov
where we found a hotel and the had some sigth seeing.
Dinner we had by the river bank in a open air restaurant.
Today we rode 455 km.

Perjantai 10.6
Aikaisin tiepäälle jotta ehdittäisiin Pietarin ohi ennen viikonloppuruuhkia.
Pari paussia matkalla ja niin syvä kuoppa että customin runko otti maahan kiinni.
Kiersimme Pietarin ohitustietä pitkin ja saavuimme lähellä vanhaa Suomen rajaa olevaan Sestroretskiin jossa majoittauduimme hotelli Skandinaviaan.
Illallisen jälkeen vielä kävelimme ja kävimme merimiehille omistetun kirkon pihalla ihmettelemässä maailman ensimmäisen? sukellusveneen kopiota.
Päivälle kertyi ajomatkaa 350 km

Friday 10.6
Early start to be able to avoid weekend rush of St.Petersburg.
A couple of stops and one so deep hole in the road that the body of custom bike hit the road.
We rode around St.Petersburg using ring road and cme to Sestroretsk, close old border of Finland, where we took rooms of hotel Skandinavia.
A couple of hours resting in sauna and pool, after that we took taxis to make a sigth seeing tour in Kronstadt as for some reason there no bike riders anymore.
After supper we walked around, saw on the yard of a sailor dedicated church a copy of the first? submarine in the world.
Today we rode 350 km

Lauantai 11.6
Tosi upean aamupalan jälkeen lähdettiin rantatietä kohti Viipuria.
Koska kotiinpaluu jo poltteli, ei juuri kierrelty.
Reissun loppukuva pyöreän tornin vierellä ja sitten hajaannuttiin,
osa kohti vaalimaata ja minä Sevetogorskin kautta Suomeen.
Venäjän tulli vähän ihmetteli Valko-Venäjän papereita mutta laski kuitenkin maasta pois.
Kottiin päästyäni oli trippimittariin kertynyt 5208 km
Todella hieno ja tapahtumarikas reissu.
Kiitokset vielä kaikille mukanaolleille ja erityisesti Sergeille perheineen ja sukulaisineen.
Jartsille kiitos valokuvista joita olen käyttänyt tässä blogissa omien kuvieni lisäksi.

Saturday 11.6
After a gourgious breakfast we rode along the cost road to Vyborg.
As eweryone was already thinking to get home, we did not made any extra pauses.
The last picture of the team at round tower and then some of us rode to Vaalimaa and me to Svetogorsk to get Finland.
Russian customs wondered for awhile Belarussian documents but finally let all of us out from the country.
As I got home I had in my trip meter 5208 km
A really fine and eventful rode.
Thanks to everyone of our team and special thanks to Sergey and his family and relatives!
